As the sun started brightening up the sky, the Class of 2026 gathered on the football field for the annual Senior Sunrise, marking the start of their last year at LHS. This tradition not only symbolizes the beginning of the school year but also serves as a celebration of friendships, memories, and the journey ahead.
The event, organized by student council members, began at 6 AM on September 26th, with students arriving bundled in blankets, eating Dunkin’ Donuts, and holding cameras. You can feel the cool autumn breeze hit your face when you walk onto the field, where there is a layer of fog hovering over the turf. Despite how early it was, there was a lot of chatter and excitement coming from the seniors. Student Media, the Student Council, and other students took the time to create posters for photo opportunities, adding a more unique look to each picture.
As the sun starts to peak through the trees in the distance, all of the tiredness fades away and turns into awe and excitement. Suddenly, the early morning wake-up is all worth it for the view they were given. As everyone’s attention turns to the sky, they see vibrant colors of the sunrise reflect their hopes and dreams for the future, kindling a sense of unity and purpose among the graduating class.
The sunrise is a metaphor for personal growth and maturity. As students get ready to take on their senior year, they start getting ready for life after high school. The sun rising symbolizes them being ready to face new challenges and responsibilities. Ultimately, Senior Sunrise stands as a touching reminder of the beauty of transition, the strength of community, and the promise of what lies ahead.
