Lowell, a school with an amazing trades program, comes with perks. Some students participate in Future Farmers of America, otherwise known as FFA. Guided by Mrs. Nichols, students took a trip down to Rensselaer High School to compete in the FFA welding competition.
The competition is between a few schools. Students from each school will pair up in teams of two, and are graded together. They will not weld the same piece, but the grades will be tallied up together. Speaking with some of the students, we learn about what happened and how it was to compete.
Sophomore Quinn Patrick was one student that got interviewed. “I thought it was fun, even though we didn’t do too well. Brandon McMullen and I only placed 9th out of 15 teams, but it was fun given the experience we acquired.”
He also said it was one of the most fun things he has done for the school. “I never really participated in anything school related, aside from tennis. This was really my first extra-curricular activity other than attending sporting events and playing tennis.” Even though he did not win, he still had fun, and sometimes that is all that matters for some people.
Needless to say, you can expect good things to come from this group of people. They are all young, motivated, and talented people who have futures in welding. They will keep progressing as a team and as people alone.
