During the winter season, Lowell High School hosted a “Penny War” between grade levels. At the beginning of Penny Wars, students were incentivized to donate by promising the winning grade level an opportunity to vote for an administrator or teacher who would have to dive into the swimming pool fully clothed.
Mr. Govert met an unfortunate fate when he was voted to take the dive. It took months for the event to finally be arranged, but on Wednesday, May 20, he finally took the plunge.
He walked out fully clothed, wearing a Lowell robe. He kept pranking the students by walking up to the edge of the pool, backing away, and taking off another piece of clothing each time.
His first dive was not his greatest. However, his second dive was amazing. The students started chanting, “One more dive!” so he had no choice but to do another one.
He stepped up facing forward, but due to the pressure from the students, he decided to attempt a backflip. Surprisingly, he pulled it off really well and shocked everyone watching.
It was an amazing experience, and it all happened for a good cause. Props to Mr. Govert for being such a good sport about it!
