My Oxford Year is romantic drama Netflix movie based on the novel by Julia Whelan. It is set at the University of Oxford in England where it follows an ambitious American student, Anna, played by Sofia Carson, studying abroad at Oxford where she plans to focus on her academic studies and her future career. Her plans suddenly change when she meets a charming local man, Jamie, played by Corey Mylchreest, that turns out to be her professor. This story goes through love, personal growth, and difficult choices.
Anna, the main female character is determined and career focused while Jamie, the main male character, is intelligent, witty, and emotionally complex. The supporting characters, their friends and family, bring humor and a better insight into student life at Oxford. The theme of this movie is choosing to live life fully despite inevitable pain.
People like this movie because of the emotional and heartfelt storyline it takes you through. This movie shows a mix of romance, humor, and serious moments taking you through an emotional rollercoaster. It appeals to fans who enjoy emotional romance movies. One of my favorite scenes in the movie was when Jamie took Anna to the Oxford library, knowing that was one of the things that was on her wishlist for when she was in Oxford. Even though they were not together and were fighting he still managed to show her he cared. I did not know what to expect with this movie because I did not read the description and just watched it because I saw how popular it was when it came out. So everything was a surprise for me, with heartbreaking moments that also leads to a heartbreaking ending. But this movie expresses a beautiful lesson of how you should try to live in the moment instead of always planning for the future.
After watching My Oxford Year, you are left thinking about love and the choices people make in life.” This movie walks you through romance with meaningful life lessons. I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes romantic dramas and coming of age stories. This is more on the emotional side, leaves you with your thoughts after you finish the movie and puts a new perspective on life.
