February is the month of love, and Valentines Day is right around the corner. It is a day to celebrate love, connections, and appreciation. The holiday has grown to represent many different forms of love like friendships and family bonds. Many people like to give gifts for this holiday and do fun crafts such as heart-shaped decorations, make handwritten letters, and bake treats.
Valentine’s day is a day to show others we care. Many of the students at Lowell High School participate in Valentine’s Day by giving their partners and friends presents such as candy, flowers, and cards as symbols of affection. Valentine’s Day can mean many different things to people. Sophomore Hayden Lambert stated, “Valentines Day is the day to highlight how much you love and enjoy those close to you.” Many people enjoy this holiday since they get to spend it with their loved ones and show how much they mean to them. I asked some people what they were going to be doing for Valentines day and sophomore Marguerite Perez stated “I’m having a Galentine’s Day because Valentine’s Day isn’t just about showing love for your partner, it is about showing love for those you care about.”
People even do things for themselves to celebrate and even just to show self-love. In the end, Valentine’s Day is about having a connection with others. Whether it’s thanking a family member, or telling a friend how much you appreciate them. The holiday serves as a reminder that to matter big or small, love matters everyday.
