Last year, the Boys Red Devils wrestling team demonstrated exceptional skill and determination, finishing with an impressive 19-2 record. The team had two state placers and a state champion, along with a trip to team state. They also claimed several major milestones, including becoming NCC Champions, earning their first-ever Triacoff Invitational Championship, and finishing 6th overall at the IHSAA State Tournament.
The team boasts a strong lineup this season, featuring returning athletes who have been state qualifiers, as well as new transfers who will contribute to the team’s continued success. They are definitely a team to watch this year!
Kameron Hazelett qualified for the state tournament last year in the 285 class and went on to become a state champion. Evan Stanley, in the 138 class, and Noel Verduzco, in the 113 class, both finished 3rd at State — incredible accomplishments that showcased their hard work, skill, and dedication. Their success also highlights the consistent effort and guidance provided by the coaching staff.
All of the wrestlers are very excited for the season to begin. As the start of the season draws near, the athletes are focused on training in the preseason and are already showing impressive improvement and determination on the mat. Senior Dalton Robson shared, “I think the season will go really well and we will be very successful, winning a team state championship… we just need to keep working hard and improving every day we come in the room.”
The wrestling team has a promising season ahead, and we can’t wait to see how they perform. Their season kicks off soon, so be sure to watch for the season-opener meet on December 2nd!
