Not many people know about the Red Devil Racing program—but they should. Despite flying under the radar, this unique team has built a reputation for passion, teamwork, and persistence. So why is it not more recognized? And why do more students not join? After all, Red Devil Racing proves that there is far more to racing than just sitting behind the wheel.
Meeting every Tuesday, the team works together to fine-tune their go-karts and prepare for upcoming competitions. Although their most recent race did not go as planned, the group has come close to victory in recent years. Under the guidance of Teacher Donald Favors, every kart is carefully inspected and adjusted to ensure it is in peak condition and ready to perform.
For Favors, racing is about more than winning—it’s about learning, teamwork, and fun. “Winning is great,” he says, “but it’s not everything.” During the last race, driver Alivia Madison suffered a crash that left one of the karts badly damaged. Even as he watched his team’s hard work take a hit, Favors remained positive, focusing on the experience rather than the setback.
Veteran team member Jakob Slusarczyk shares that same mindset. “Even though I can’t drive right now, it’s still nice to be here with the team and help us get better,” he says. “It’s all for the love of the sport.”
Though Red Devil Racing didn’t see much success at their most recent event, they are not discouraged. With their eyes set on the next race, the underdogs are more motivated than ever to push forward, improve, and chase that long-awaited victory.
