After the month of February came to a close, we learned that Mrs. Mize was awarded as one of the employees of the month. This is a big moment for her as it shows the outstanding work that she has accomplished for Lowell High School. Mrs. Mize deserves the recognition as she is reaching past the limits every day, month, and year. I reached out to Mrs. Mize and asked her a few questions to follow up on this great accomplishment.
The first thing that I asked her was, “What do you enjoy most about working for LHS and the students inside?” Her response to it was, “What I enjoy most about working at the high school is the students. It’s incredibly rewarding to watch them grow and gain confidence through both academics and athletics. Even after they graduate, it’s meaningful to run into them and see the paths they’ve taken pursuing their career goals, building relationships, and in some cases, starting families of their own.” Mrs. Mize has been a part of LHS for many years and counting, and this response shows just how much the students coming in and out of Lowell High School mean to her.
After one amazing response to a question, the next thing I followed up with was, “What is something that motivates you to do your best?” This was important because knowing what might shape her into the best thing matters since she had achieved employee of the month. Mrs. Mize’s response to the question was, “What motivates me is personal pride, commitment, responsibility, and being a part of our team, doing my part to contribute to something bigger than myself.” What she said is amazing because it shows just how much she follows every part in P.R.I.D.E, knowing that her accomplishments and achievements help build not only what she does, but it strengthens the community and team that she is surrounded by. Also, with her saying, “to contribute to something bigger than myself,” it shows just how much she truly cares about the people around her.
I followed up with one final question, asking her, “What does winning employee of the month mean to you?” This is a special honor to get, so hearing how she feels would be important. She responded by saying, “I am truly touched and honored, but don’t really feel deserving of this recognition. I am one who supports and helps others, and enjoys it.” I don’t think a response could have been any better than this because it truly shows the person that Mrs. Mize is. She loves this school and the students inside, and her saying that she “supports and helps others, and enjoys it,” shows how amazing she is. While she is also a very humble person, responding that she doesn’t feel deserving of the recognition, I think we can all agree she completely deserves this.

Thank you, Karen Mize, for your outstanding work that you do for our community here at Lowell High School. Congratulations on winning Employee of the Month for February, and I know we will only see greatness and more accomplishments down the road to come.
