A new tradition took root this past weekend as Mrs. Nichols and the FFA members hosted their first plant sale, far exceeding their expectations and community engagement goals.
The event, held May 8th and 9th, marked the culmination of months of preparation in the greenhouse. While the initial goal was simply to recover the costs of seeds and starting supplies, the program recorded a significant profit of $1,122.30, which is a major milestone for a first-year program.
Reflecting on the hard work leading up to the launch of the event, Mrs. Nichols noted the high expectations involved in starting a new tradition.
The path to opening the greenhouse was supported by a year of fundraising. Fundraising events included their annual pork chop dinner, fruit sales, and sponsor shirt program, which helped provide the funds needed to launch the sale. Success required a collective effort from the entire membership, with students spending hours during and after school to ensure the sale was market-ready.
Mrs. Nichols added, “FFA members and officers also helped during class and after school to take care of the plants and get the greenhouse ready to go!”
