Ms. Stoit won the P.R.I.D.E. Award at Lowell High School for the month of April. Ms. Stoit is the social-emotional counselor, and she works with students dealing with various needs and crises. She is able to work within the scope of the school setting to support students so they can continue developing regulation skills, emotional intelligence, problem-solving abilities, and communication and relationship-building skills. Her goal is to help students strengthen these skills so they can better achieve academic success.
Ms. Fitzsimons nominated Ms. Stoit for the P.R.I.D.E. in Action Award for the month of April. Mrs. Stoit said, “It was such a lovely surprise!” Ms. Fitzsimons wrote about the work Mrs. Stoit did while planning for ILEARN testing at the school, which is very time-consuming.
Ms. Stoit’s favorite part of her job is supporting students and helping them through challenges so they can learn and grow. She hopes they build the skills needed to be successful the next time they encounter a roadblock. When Ms. Stoit has other projects that do not directly involve SEL work, such as planning state testing, it can take away from her time with students. Even so, she is always happy to help because she knows she is serving the school in important ways.
Ms. Stoit truly deserved this award for everything she does around the school!
