Kendyl Fidler, a sophomore at LHS, recently competed at sectionals this past Saturday. During sectionals she had the events vault, beam, bars, and floor. She did a fantastic job and advanced to regionals on floor (9.0), and bars (8.25). For the other events she received a 8.1 on vault and 8.7 on beam. There were some challenges that she had to face during her season this year but she never let it stop her from advancing to regionals.
During pre-season, she sprained her ankle, and it put a dent in the progress she had made. This impacted her skills, but she was determined to not let it stop her from making it far this season. She kept pushing herself to get back to the level she was at prior to this injury.
Her goals for this season were to pass sectionals in any event and she was able to achieve this both this year and last year. When asked what her motivation was she had this to say, “My motivation has always been wanting to make my younger self proud and thinking about all the work my previous self has put into this sport.” A piece of advice she would give to someone would be to know the “power of a positive mindset in everything you do, and to always do the right thing when nobody’s watching.” Next season, she is hoping to advance her skills on every event.
She is a determined athlete and never shies down from obstacles that stand in her way. We look forward to see how she does in the rest of her season. Congratulations, Kendyl and good luck at regionals on Saturday!
